May 9 cont...
They asked if I like fish. I said Yes and we drove to two nearby restaurants but they were both closed.
We then drove for over an hour to another restaurant, that was like a Cobb and Co, and had a delicious meal there.
I had sushi and the Monks had sashimi. O'Sha San paid for us all. While he was sorting the bill out, I quickly bought a pad knowing I needed something to write on but feeling hypercritical for indicating to O'Sha San when I first met him that I had no money, then him paying for dinner.
As we drove back, I lay on my towel in the back seat and closed my eyes. I heard my name being mentioned a lot and at one stage ‘settai’ came up a number of times.
When O'Sha San picked me up at the Temple earlier in the day, he asked where my stick was. I said I had given it away as settai to Yahiro San.
I remember paying for the stick myself but I had the feeling O'Sha San thought he had paid for it as settai when he bought me the bag. Maybe he did and I didn’t know but he mentioned it to his driver and I had a feeling he was talking about it with Narabe San now. I don’t think he was happy that I gave it away.
We stopped at a supermarket then returned to O'Sha Sans Temple.
Narabe San showed me to the bathroom area and I was thrilled to see that everything was modern and clean. I had a wonderful shower then lay out my bedding in the large sleeping hall.
As I was writing this in the near dark, I became aware that Narabe San was sleeping in a room nearby. We were also getting up at 6am so I cut it short and went to sleep.
What a surreal day!!
