Mountain Goat I am NOT!

May 8

Today was arduous and getting through it, an achievement.

We set off at 8 and within 15 minutes, we were going up a steep path that soon turned into banks and banks of steps. I realized very quickly that my energy was the lowest since I had started on this trip and that today could be a long day.

I also realized that one (albeit large and thick) slice of bread for breakfast was never going to be enough to climb a mountain on!
At one of our breath breaks, Taichi San told me we had another mountain to climb after this one, then a 13km walk.
Good God!!

The steps and the slope were relentless. I think I was so traumatized I can’t even remember Temple 20. Then we went down, and that was torturous too.

When we got to the path to climb the next mountain, we were pleasantly surprised to find a narrow meandering concrete path that ran alongside a trickling stream.

It was actually enjoyable and lasted for a long time but then the inevitable happened…the dreaded steps.
I told Taichi San not to wait, so he left. I’m not sure he was finding it any easier than me.
I trudged and trudged and stopped and trudged some more...

"No really! - You go ahead - Don't worry about me" The back of Taichi San...
