May 12 cont...
As we settled in and started driving, Nakano San kept being summonsed, backward and forward, by Shia San to give me settai. A can of coffee, an umbrella, two books that I have yet to find out what they are about, more food and a group photo of the bus. It was clear that he had taken a shining to me and I genuinely appreciated everything he gave me but it was getting embarrassing. Nakano San rolled her eyes but she didn’t say anything negative about him.
I asked Nakano San if she could get everyone to sign the photo so I knew what there names were.
As we stopped at each Temple, Tachiro San would point at the stamp office to hurry me. Unfortunately we were behind two other large buses and they had bags and bags of books and scrolls to get stamped, then our bus had to have all theirs done too. Luckily our bus person always let me ahead of him so I managed to still get in a rushed Gya Tei.
After Temples 41 and 42 we eventually got to Temple 43.
I took my bag with me this time and was going to have a leisurely Gya Tei but Taichiro San again ushered me to the stamp office because we had passed the other two busses and he wanted us to be done before they arrived. I figured I would go back and spend more time at the Temple when the bus had left so walked back to the entrance with everyone. The people at the shop offered us all a cup of tea as settai so and this was when everyone signed their names on the photo.
I said arigato to everyone whose names I knew then bowed and waved goodbye to the bus as it drove away with everyone waving back at me.
Just then a tired Henro walked up so I shared some of my settai of black bean cakes with him before going back up to pray.
