Tahara San was staying at a lodge near the current Temple, so, because I knew we were doing more mountain paths, I asked him to ask the couple, who were now eating their lunch, if it would be alright if I followed them again to the next Temple. They said sure, but after the next Temple, they were going a different way, so I would be back on my own.
I said Campeki – perfect! and we left, saying goodbye and best wishes to Tahara San.
Having had a good lunch, I had high energy and kept up easily with the lively pace the couple set. They were amazing and when we came out on the road at the top, I pointed to the lady and said Campeki Guido!
Her husband indicated that this was her 3rd time round. I animatedly ahsoed then he said it was his 7th. I was stunned. No wonder they were so good.
We stopped and they bought me (and themselves) and icecream then we continued to the Temple.
The husband was very vigilant about pointing out which way I had to go when I was by myself.
I knew why people worried about me so much. It was because when I was able to follow someone, I always trusted them implicitly and showed no interest in signs or where we were going. This made them nervous and convinced I had no idea! Which I didn't most of the time, but I had Kobo Daishi...
