May 19 cont...
When we got to Temple 82, I stopped at the bathrooms before the gate and said Goodbye to the couple, and thank you, as they continued up to the Temple.
When I came out, I headed for the map board because I had a feeling there was a Gondola somewhere near, which meant a mountain to climb, and upon consulting the map in the bathroom, I had decided there was no way I was walking by myself!
As I walked toward the map board, the man standing by the archway entrance to the Temple grounds, who I thought was another Taxi driver yelled over to me Sue? Sue San? I walked toward him and realized it was the man who had given me the ride earlier.
I said Iie – watashi was E desu – No, I’m E.
He said Ahso – New Zealando!
I don’t know how long he had been waiting but he had been waiting there for me and had even bought some food. I found this slightly unnerving.
He asked if I was still meeting friends at Temple 83 and told me he would give me a lift. I said Arigato and headed for the archway to go to the Temple but he pointed to the car.
I mimed praying, he said Ahso and ushered me on to do my rituals.
As I ran up the stairs, I wasn’t sure how to feel but decided to just trust my instincts and go with whatever happened, monitoring the situation as I went.
I sped through my routine then at the Daishi Do, I could see my previous Guidos through an archway but I couldn’t find how to get through the gate that was blocking me getting to them.
The woman must have been half expecting me to have trouble and looked around, pointing, showing me that I had to go through the dark crypt like corridor, to either side, to get through.
I stood beside them and joined in when they got to the Gya Teis.
I thanked them again and we made our way to the Hondo. I didn’t wait for them this time, I did mine, ran to the office then hurried back to the waiting man.
