May 20 cont...
A Monk, who spoke quite good English, showed me on a map, the direction toward the next Temple but there were paths and tracks everywhere and I quickly lost all sense of direction.
I took one path then turned back then turned back again. Another ancient looking track dropped off it so I followed that...
It felt like I was above the Tonomiro Tunnel again, not being clear where I was going, having to backtrack and guess – the difference being that it was now sunny and hot and the track was beautiful. I felt a little despondent and sorry for myself. Why couldn’t I seem to get the hang of this - or anything!
I texted SMG my frustrations…
I’ve just done Temple 84 and have 3 hrs walk to 85 & I’m weary to my marrow. I’m sick of climbing, eating shit, being constantly wet, battling language barriers, being laughed at, not knowing where I’m going to sleep each night, not getting many texts and being alone…
Then 30 minutes later…
…and then I turn onto an unbeaten path, the sun appears & I am surrounded by the Hukeko (bird whose call sounds just like its name), furry crawling things & slimy slithery things & all seems as it should be…
SMG to EL: Well, you've made it, only 3 to go. It's easy for me, or us, to say but there is no doubt that you have triumphed over a huge ordeal. Poss lack of txts due to important but not urgent, while most, or a great deal of txts are for urgent but not important.
