Round and Round and Up Then Down - T84

May 20 cont...

I was finally starting to get the hang of the map book – I got off the train and head in the right direction for a change!

A man stopped me on my way up the hill toward the next Temple and, even though I said I didn’t understand, he gestured and talked faster and louder about how to get there. He drew a diagram which was a replica of the map so, even though he pointed left along the street we were on, I went straight ahead up the hill to go along the next street (that the map and he both said was there).

It wasn’t there.

After doing a full circuit of a Shinto Shrine, I took a punt in a general direction. Oddly enough, the Henro signs appeared but they kept pointing the opposite way from where I was going. My intuition said to ignore them and it was right. I ended up on the right path up the Mountain.

Did I mention up?
These fecking relentless up paths!
I had low energy, so it was quite a drag. At least it was wide enough for a small bus and beautifully paved the whole way.
One over enthusiastic guy was jogging up and down it with a packed solid pack on his back – he passed me three times!

I didn't count but I'm sure I dragged myself up 50 of these to Temple 84
