A Knife Wielding Saint

May 14 cont...

As we were walking casually to the guest house that Makoto San had booked us into, he stopped to check with a lady that we were going the right way.

While she was telling him which way we needed to go (that looked very long and convoluted to me!) a man pulled over his car in the middle of the street and came over to us.

After much discussion and pointing at maps between the three of them, the man said he would drive us there as settai. We both arigatoed and got into the backseat of the car.

The first thing I noticed was a huge knife that looked like a pistol on the front seat so I was on high alert immediately. Then he said he had to make a quick detour. I was relieved when it ended up being to the gate of his workplace to let them know what he was doing.

Makoto San and he laughed and chatted easily and he stopped a few times to ask directions to our guest house so I relaxed and, in fact, he was very kind.

It seemed that everytime I became suspicious or concerned, I was always proven wrong by these humble generous people...
