When I got up, I looked at the vouchers I had been given when I checked in and suspected one of them might be a restaurant nearby. I went to reception where the young guy walked me out onto the street and pointed to a place about ten doors down on the other side.
It was a fish restaurant and the three staff combined their next to no English until we all found something I might like. First though, I ordered Sake and explained O Henro, Hachi Ju Hachi Ban today! and they were dutifully impressed.
When I got my meal, I was thrilled. It was exquisite and I ate every bit (except the shitake mushrooms) including mopping up the delicious lemon butter sauce with another helping of gohan.
I came back to my room and put a load of washing on then started sorting my mess.
I was going to need even less stuff than previously because of only being away two nights. The big pack was now getting ridiculously full!
Reaching Temple 88 felt like an anti-climax because I knew it still wasn’t the end and I knew I couldn’t relax or make further preparations until the scroll was complete.
I still had over a month in Japan and couldn’t imagine what I would do next now that I had almost completed what I had come here to do.
I was so thankful I hadn’t walked the last two Temples. Even as I wrote, I had excruciating stabbing pains down the side of my right calf.
