We walked in and stood behind all the other people there.
I said my Gya Teis and, because Makoto San wasn’t collecting stamps, I went into the stamp office and unrolled my scroll ready for stamping.
When I got up to the counter, the Monk was very annoyed and said something that I didn’t understand. I was so surprised by his reaction to me that I froze. Just then Makoto San ran in and grabbed me. He explained that this was a Bangai – one of the 20 un numbered Temple that aren’t officially part of the 88 Temples on the Pilgrimage.
I could have turned to stone right then!!
I was sooo embarrassed - especially since there were so many people who were watching me.
I apologised myself blue and backed, bowing, out the door.
We had finished anyway so we left right away.
